Minimum Valuable Reactions on Slack

In this post, I’ll be asking a question I’ve pondered over, many times.

Why does a slack post featuring a GitHub repo gets 10+ 🔥 reactions, and 2 stars on GitHub.

Which reaction is more valuable to the developer? The 🔥 emoji? Or a GitHub star?

It’s not just GitHub repos, you’ll see a similar trend with Twitter, and Medium posts.

  • A star on GitHub goes a long way.
  • A RT or Like on Twitter too.
  • A clap on Medium means your followers get to read the post too.

They cost just as much as a slack reaction, and more value is created for it.

I’ve learned I don’t know anything. I've also learned that people will pay for what I know. Maybe that's why they never pay.
